What's wrong with this picture?

We had some store bought eggs from a recent visit with my mom, who is a bit squeamish about using "real eggs" in her cooking. Yes, you read that right, my mom went to the store to buy eggs even though I had TWO dozen in my fridge. Anywho...we had these white eggs hanging out in the fridge when my wee one asked for a boiled egg. I never boil just one egg, so I plopped the last three white eggs in the water along with three of our beautiful brown homegrown eggs.

Now, I've certainly noticed that our egg yolks are a much deeper yellow than the store ones, but I was SHOCKED when we peeled up one of each and put the yolks side by side. That pale yellow yolk doesn't even look appealing, does it? I don't think I'll ever go back to generic, mass produced white eggs....how could I?

I can hardly bring myself to use store bought eggs anymore...they are all anemic looking.

At first I thought you were showing a yolk and a white! Kim

That's a pretty significant difference. I love not having to buy eggs and now milk at the store.

Have you seen the movie "Food Inc"? We love it and bought a copy tonight at a video store that was going out of business. We plan on forcing people to watch it so they will buy our Longhorn Beef.

There is a lot in the movie about modern chicken farming. If you haven't seen it, rent it! It is suitable for children. It was just on PBS this week.

What kind of calves did you get? Are they steers or heifers?

storebought eggs use to have a similar deep yellow color in my experience. Don´t forget to check some batches

Wow! At first glance, I thought that was a yolk and a white. I mean, wow!
