Waste Not Want Not...
I hate wasting things...anything...even the wax that is left over when a candle has burned itself out. I started saving those bits and pieces of wax to pour new candles awhile back & finally melted them down. These bits were even more special because they came from my beeswax candles that I LOVE to burn, but are so expensive. Here are some photos:

I have down an extreme downsize, so now I don't have room to save things like this. But I saved candle ends for a long time.
I used the leftover pieces to make firestarters. I carefully melted the wax (sometimes I added food coloring and/or cinnamon or other spices), dipped the tips of pinecones into the wax, and placed them on a brown paper bag to cool. I usually gave these away in gift baskets and they were very popular.

I've done both for years, saved wax for candles and firestarters. I also buy broken ones at yard sales and such in summer. I've made candles for sale for some times now, but I hadn't thought of using canning jars. How lovely the candlelight is them :)
and I love the ice on the chickenwire tho I know it's not fun to live with.
great idea - I'm always hesitant to put candles in jars as they seem to burn funny and become wasted. But, if you're re-purposing them anyway, then there is no 'wasted'.
Ginger...what a great idea! I'll have to remember that one for next year @ Christmas! JP...how do you make your candles? Do you have a candle mold? I'd considered using a toilet paper tube to form a pillar candle, but chickened out!
